I saw the Mockingbird High Chair in an ad on my TikTok feed long before I was pregnant with my first child. If you haven’t seen this popular high chair yet, you probably will soon. Parents across social media praise this viral high chair for its aesthetically pleasing design, easy cleanup, and durable construction. However, priced at $249, this certainly isn’t the cheapest high chair you’ll find.

The question when splurging on a baby product like this is: Do the marketed “pain points” this high chair claims to address actually matter, or are they just marketing claims? I put the Mockingbird High Chair to the test to see whether it lives up to the hype, or if it’s overpriced. In this full Mockingbird High Chair review, I’ll break down what you need to know before you buy and how to determine if it’s the right high chair for your family.

Assembly and Usage

Mockingbird high chair

Overall, the assembly process of the Mockingbird High Chair went pretty smoothly. Instructions were straightforward and easy to follow, and one person can complete the process. Inside the box, you’ll find a QR code to scan, which shows step-by-step assembly visuals.

Once I completed the assembly, I was pretty pleased with how the product came together. It has a very neutral, pleasant look that blends in well with my equally neutral kitchen. Since this high chair doesn’t fold, I wanted one I could leave out all the time, or remove the tray and tuck it under the kitchen or dining room table.

This high chair is pretty simple to use, and there really isn’t much of a learning curve or any crazy features. The adjustable tray has three sliding positions, whereas the bottom footrest can be moved down as your baby grows (and their legs get longer). The seat portion itself does seem on the smaller side, so if you have a larger baby, this could be a concern. The thigh component is a fixed, hard shell, which means it really only works for babies up to around 50 pounds.

What I Love and What I Don’t

Mockingbird high chair

One cool thing about the Mockingbird High Chair is the many different available colors, designed to match common furniture colors. For example, I chose the natural beechwood option with a white seat to match my home, but there is also an espresso color with a black seat that matches darker furniture. Some colors, such as Petal, are available only when you purchase from the brand’s website, and are unavailable elsewhere.

Beyond color options, perhaps the most attractive feature of the Mockingbird High Chair is the easy cleanup. This product is designed to make cleanup much easier for parents. Most high chairs on the market have nylon straps that can be prone to food stains (especially if you have a really messy eater on your hands!). With silicone straps for the entire piece, you can rest assured that when you wipe down your high chair, it will truly get clean. The straps are also removable and machine-washable, though you may not need to wash them often. The removable dishwasher-safe tray also makes cleanup much quicker than with other high chairs.

For a non-foldable high chair, the Y-frame design tucks nicely underneath tables to save space while out. If you want a high chair you can fold away and move around the home easily when not in use, the Mockingbird High Chair probably isn’t the best option. For kitchens with delicate floors, I do recommend adding felt pads to the bottom to avoid scratching up your floors.

Pros

  • Wipe-clean silicone straps for easy cleanup.
  • Neutral color scheme.
  • Easy magnetic harness.
  • Dishwasher-safe parts.
  • Adjustable footrest to grow with your child.
  • Crevice-free design for limited messes.

Cons

  • Does not fold up — takes up space.
  • May not be the best for larger babies.
  • High price point.

In My Expert Opinion

Now, time for the final round-up on the Mockingbird High Chair. Priced at $249, this is no doubt an expensive choice for a product your baby will only use for a short period of time. However, putting price aside and focusing solely on its features, does it live up to the hype? Overall, I do think so. Cleaning up this high chair is a breeze, and it has become a staple in my household. If you’re a parent who values a fast cleanup and has a super messy eater on your hands, this high chair could really help you save time during every mealtime. That said, it’s not the lightest chair, and it’s not foldable, so keep your available space in mind when purchasing.

Who shouldn’t bother splurging on the Mockingbird High Chair? To me, this is an all-around great pick and a wonderful baby shower gift for expecting parents. Sometimes, if your budget allows, it’s worth spending a little extra for your own sanity. But, if you live in a small space, apartment, or crowded kitchen, I recommend choosing an option that can fold away when not in use and between meals.
